Plant Street, the Trail and the Lake
Downtown Winter Garden grew up along Plant Street. The historic district there has restaurants, shops, cafés, two museums and a performing arts venue. The Edgewater Hotel downtown opened to serve fishermen during Lake Apopka's fishing boom, which drew visitors from the 1920s to the 1960s.

Most visitors meet Winter Garden on a Saturday downtown. Park once, walk Plant Street and the trail, and you will have a feel for the older core of the city before you look at the newer neighborhoods.

State Road 50 crosses the city and divides it into northern and southern halves. State Road 429, a toll road completed in 2006, links Florida's Turnpike at Winter Garden with Interstate 4 to the south. County Road 535 runs south from SR 50 toward Windermere and Lake Buena Vista. Downtown Orlando is about 14 miles east.
